Overview

Dr Chung Won is an Australian trained general surgeon with further sub-specialisation fellowship training in laparoscopic, upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery. Chung attended school in Sydney and graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW). 

Born to Korean parents, Chung has attained extensive surgical training and experience in many leading hospitals around Australia, but now considers himself a native to Brisbane. Born and bred in Brisbane, his wife Dr Rebecca Won also shares consultation rooms on Wickham Terrace, and they have the pleasure of sharing a young family together.

Dr Won currently operates out of some of Brisbane’s most respected hospitals including the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital, QE2 Jubilee, Mater Public and Mater Private Hospitals, and Greenslopes Private Hospital. Beyond raising a family and helping patients he is active in passing his skills and knowledge along to the next generation of surgical trainees and medical students.

Training

After graduating from UNSW, Chung moved to Brisbane in 2005 to commence formal training in General Surgery at Royal Brisbane & Womens Hospital (RBWH). After obtaining specialist qualification in 2009, Dr Won undertook a further 3 years of fellowship training in the areas of Bariatric, Upper Gastro-Intestinal and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the Royal Brisbane, as well as Concord Repatriation General Hospital Sydney and St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

Professional experience

In 2012 Chung returned to Brisbane as a Staff Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH). He currently works across multiple hospitals including PAH, QE2 Jubilee, Mater, Mater Private and Greenslopes Private Hospital. He has fostered a particular expertise in bariatric procedures, but also has keen interest in related surgical procedures for anti-reflux, hiatus hernia, gallbladder, common bile duct stones and hernias.

Dr Won is one of very few surgeons providing bariatric surgery for public and private patients – public Bariatric patients are based on strict criteria. He is motivated by achieving results that fundamentally change the lives of his patients for the positive, and believes in universal access to world-class healthcare.
